Due to a large influx of attempted spammers, I have added a captcha and a spam filter to the site. Sorry for the slight inconvenience, but it seems to work well.

Recent Spam Activity
A little while back I added captchas for new members to stop spamming on this site. I later made the captchas simple for new members. I recently found that to be a mistake. A spammer created a few hundred accounts and left a few hundred comments on articles.
I just went through and deleted it all. If I accidentally deleted an account or comment please contact me and I'll try to fix it. I was just in mass delete mode and might have gotten something extra.

Latest Adobe Flash Update
Today I just got an Adobe flash update from Ubuntu and it seems to be much more stable than previous flash plug ins.
While using the previous flash plug in I was able to get better use by using a fix that was spoken about in another article but it still had times where it didn't work quite right.
After todays update I suddenly had greatly enhanced flash support. I guess I'll cross my fingers and hope the stability for flash will continue.
If anyone has similar or even different experiences with the latest update I would be interested in hearing about it in the forums or a message.

Budget Cuts at SETI
I got an email from SETI@home today. No, they didn’t find life (yet). Congress is planning some budget cuts!
Email-
Dear basotl,
Arecibo Observatory, the world’s largest radio telescope and the source for
the SETI@home data that your computer analyzes, faces massive budget cuts that
will END its ability to continue the search for life beyond Earth. The decision
to ensure full funding currently rests upon votes in Congress on Senate Bill S.
2862 and House Resolution H.R. 3737. These bills desperately need more support.
Please take a moment to help us SAVE ARECIBO.
Clicking the link below will direct you to a web page that allows you to print
out letters prepared for your Senators and Congressional Representative urging

Druid Class
This is a fan made supplement for Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition.
Currently the Druid was dropped from the the Players Handbook but will appearing the Players Handbook II which should be on shelves in about a years time.
I was creating my own supplement but dropped it after I saw this one and that my earlier work was in the same vein. This just saves me a lot of trouble.
Thanks for your good work Saric!
The Homebrew Channel on the Wii
So a while ago some intelligent people figured out how to use saved game hack in Twilight Princess to allow loading of home brew code. After a bit others have improved on this to allow for a custom channel to be launched that can access content via network or SD card.
I've taken advantage of this incredibly simple software hack for some time but have failed to post some nice pictures and comments showing how this nice bit of code is.
For information on getting this onto your Wii, check out The Homebrew Channels website:
http://hbc.hackmii.com/about/
If you have access to an SD card & Twilight Princess, it's actually a very quick hack.

Ubuntu 8.04 Upgrading with out network access.
Not everyone has network access to all their computers and I have had a few people ask me how to upgrade Ubuntu 6.10 or 7.10 to 8.04 off line. I hope the following will help those that need to use this method.
Upgrading using the alternate CD/DVD
Use this method if the system being upgraded is not connected to the Internet.
1. Download and burn the alternate installation CD.
2. Insert it into your CD-ROM drive.
3. A dialog will be displayed offering you the opportunity to upgrade using that CD.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
If the upgrade dialog is not displayed for any reason, you may also run the following command using Alt+F2:
gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade"

Record companies sue Project Playlist on copyright
I first ran into Project Playlist on MySpace and other social networking sites.
For those unfamiliar with it, Project Playlist allows users to create custom music web players with music searchable at the the Project Playlist website. The music isn't hosted at Project Playlist but is easily searched for on their website.
I always had the feeling that it was too good to last and now it seems that record companies have decided to do their normal thing of suing the crap out of them. See Reuters Article.

Flash fix for Firefox 3.
For the past while Flash has been giving many users difficulty in Ubuntu. Flash likes to freeze a lot and started happening for me the last few weeks I had Gutsy and has continued in giving trouble in Firefox 3 beta on Hardy.
This is a common problem, but has an easy fix in a package that provides non-native support for plugins and addons to Firefox 3.
1. Download nspluginwrapper and install it.
2. Then in the command line run: sudo apt-get remove --purge flashplugin-nonfree
Or remove flash in your package manager.
3. Then in the command line run: sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
Or reinstall flash in your package manager.
